This report forms part of The Economy Rankings’ Employers by Industry portfolio. The assessment concerns drug-development, pharmaceutical-production and biotechnology employers, using the national workforce cohorts identified below. Information reviewed on 23 October 2026.
Scientific employment depends on more than the importance of the research. A laboratory scientist needs opportunities to deepen expertise, a manufacturing colleague needs appropriate working resources and an employee moving into management needs a different kind of preparation. The employer shapes those conditions across the long process of developing, producing and supplying medicines and biological diagnostics.
This ranking compares pharmaceutical and biotechnology employers through independent employee evidence and documented employment practices. The research universe includes U.S. and Indian employee cohorts, with international business activity distinguished from the country actually represented by a survey. Scientific reputation, clinical results and product-market performance do not by themselves establish the experience of employees.
Market Overview
The sector brings together distinct professional settings. Discovery research involves laboratory and computational capabilities; development adds clinical, regulatory and operational coordination; production requires disciplined processes and technical learning. Commercial and enabling teams create additional career populations. Employment evidence is therefore most useful when it identifies the people covered and the support mechanism available to them.
Learning can take several forms. Tuition assistance supports formal study, a postdoctoral route develops a particular scientific population and a management curriculum prepares employees to lead others. Conferences and employee networks create other opportunities for knowledge exchange. The assessment distinguishes these mechanisms rather than assuming that every scientific employer offers the same kind of career progression.
Industry Trend — 2027
The reviewed practices suggest an employment agenda in which scientific capability and practical employee support increasingly appear together. The following trends interpret that evidence; they are not forecasts from a new staff survey.
| 2027 market development | Current evidence and direction | Implication for the sector |
|---|---|---|
| Distinct technical and leadership pathways | Scientific training, rotations and manager development address different capabilities. | Assess the actual employee population and delivery mechanism, with student opportunities kept separate from staff learning. |
| Employee support with visible eligibility | Tuition assistance, family support and confidential advice have stated coverage and conditions. | Read the plan population and facility limits before treating an offering as available to an entire group. |
| Professional networks and knowledge exchange | Employee communities and congress participation connect colleagues across specialties. | These are implemented activities; participation alone is not a promotion rate or a universal entitlement. |
| Operational attention alongside wellbeing | Laboratory and manufacturing settings call for relevant safety processes as well as personal support. | Distinguish a documented process from comparable exposure-adjusted employee and contractor outcomes. |
| More explicit country and ownership boundaries | Multinational operations and acquisitions can change the population behind an employer name. | Retain the survey cohort and period rather than extending a legacy finding to a newly enlarged group. |
The comparison is strongest where employee findings can be connected to identifiable practices. A published support program gives context to staff experience; it does not prove that the program caused a survey result. Likewise, an older workforce disclosure can document a mechanism without establishing its current reach or a long-term outcome.
Methodology — Core Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility, current identity and country-scoped employee evidence were considered before comparative editorial scoring.
- An identifiable drug-development, pharmaceutical-production or biotechnology employer, including biological assay research; general chemical suppliers, healthcare-delivery employers and software-only businesses excluded.
- Independent employee-derived evidence with a credible national cohort and provider participation methodology, plus documentary employment-practice corroboration.
- A defined employing group and workforce population, without silently incorporating contractors, foreign affiliates or separate subsidiary surveys.
- One placement per current employer group; acquisitions and U.S. business formation are distinguished from older parent-company origins.
- Employment merits assessed independently of medicine sales, research prestige, clinical milestones and commercial recognition purchases.
Methodology — Ranking Factors
- Credible workforce experience evidence (30%): Independent employee-derived evidence covering Scientific careers; employee safety; training; verified staff feedback. Provider sampling attestation is acceptable only for the identified country and occupational population; no inference from client reputation.
- Career and capability development (25%): Named implemented development and progression mechanisms accessible to the assessed workforce, with participation or independent corroboration where available.
- Employment terms and workforce protections (20%): Documented arrangements and practical access for the assessed occupational cohort, interpreted against national requirements; no statutory entitlement credited as discretionary.
- Sector-specific wellbeing and safety (15%): Scientific careers; employee safety; training; verified staff feedback assessed using relevant workload, support and safety evidence; distinguish direct staff and contractors and avoid incompatible incident-rate comparisons.
- Evidence quality, scope and accountability (10%): Traceable provider evidence, employing-group identity, geographic boundaries, recency and candid limits; no marketing-volume premium.
The five criteria carry weights of 30%, 25%, 20%, 15% and 10%, respectively. The assessment combines documented employment practices with the evidence required for this particular series. Published employee research is attributed to its original provider and assessed within its stated workforce scope; The Economy Rankings has not conducted a new employee survey. Country-specific employment terms are interpreted against the applicable statutory context. Missing evidence is not treated as average performance. Licensing, sponsorship and likelihood of purchasing recognition do not influence eligibility, assessments or tier placement.
Company Profiles and Further Reference
Names appearing in this ranking are linked to their corresponding employer profiles in The Economy Wiki, where available. These profiles provide further background on employer identity, principal scientific and pharmaceutical activities, organizational history and related editorial coverage across The Economy Network.
Each entry identifies the employing organization or assessed group and the workforce population covered by the available evidence. A policy or survey covering one country is not generalized to every global employee. The Economy Wiki profiles are maintained as editorial reference pages and may be updated as new public information becomes available.
Tier I — Leading Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Employers
1. Vaxcyte
- Employing entity / assessed group: Vaxcyte (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: San Carlos, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2013
Vaxcyte’s careers disclosure identifies an Employee Career Development Program alongside an employee assistance program, mental-health resources and coaching for new and existing parents. Its offering also distinguishes hybrid working and financial participation through equity-related arrangements. These supports address professional growth and personal circumstances within a vaccine-development employer.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated February 2026, reports 93% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 97% agreement: “When you join the company, you are made to feel welcome.”
The U.S. provider findings support welcome and the physical working environment. Vaxcyte is included for the relationship between those observations and identifiable employment mechanisms. The assessment does not assume that hybrid working is equally applicable to laboratory and office positions, or treat a vaccine candidate’s development stage as evidence that staff conditions are better than at another employer.
2. Mirum Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
- Employing entity / assessed group: Mirum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Foster City, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2018
Mirum’s careers disclosure identifies tuition reimbursement, continuing learning and an employee assistance program covering emotional, financial and wellness support. Retirement matching with immediate vesting and healthcare contributions provide further concrete employment arrangements. Its employer profile documents a national meeting and hands-on team workshop, giving staff connection an observable implementation setting.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated March 2026, reports 96% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 98% agreement: “My work has special meaning: this is not "just a job.".”
Mirum is included for the alignment between those practices and strong U.S. workforce evidence. The assessment distinguishes employee support from the patient communities served by its rare-disease work. Published plan descriptions are not treated as proof of universal utilization, and meetings that bring employees together do not establish a measured change in scientific productivity or workload.
3. United Therapeutics Corporation
- Employing entity / assessed group: United Therapeutics Corporation (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Silver Spring, MD, US
- Reported business origins: 1996
United Therapeutics publishes a benefits framework that includes education reimbursement and support for employees’ families. On-site childcare is tied to named main facilities, while other family-support arrangements reach a broader U.S. population. Its employer profile also documents green-chemistry work intended to reduce hazardous substances in processing, linking scientific activity with attention to the working environment.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated April 2026, reports 95% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I'm proud to tell others I work here.”
The employer is included for this combination of specific support mechanisms and strong U.S. employee evidence. Childcare at a named campus is not represented as a physical facility available everywhere. Green-chemistry activity describes an implemented approach, while the ranking makes no unsupported comparison of incident rates or employee exposure across different laboratory and manufacturing settings.
4. Merck
- Employing entity / assessed group: Merck (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Rahway, NJ, US
- Reported business origins: 1891
Merck’s U.S. careers disclosure identifies learning and development alongside health and financial support, including a defined-benefit pension and a retirement savings plan with employer matching. The assessed employer is Merck & Co.’s U.S. business, distinct from the separately owned German Merck group. Its workforce includes scientific and operational roles with different working environments.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated August 2026, reports 81% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 88% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee evidence includes access to necessary time away, supporting a practical working-condition observation beyond commitment to research. Merck is included for that staff evidence and an identifiable rewards and development framework. Benefits are retained within their stated jurisdiction and eligibility, and the company’s success in bringing medicines to patients is not used as a measure of employment quality.
5. BillionToOne, Inc.
- Employing entity / assessed group: BillionToOne, Inc. (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Menlo Park, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2016
BillionToOne combines molecular diagnostics and biological assay development, placing it within the biotechnology employer scope. These are specific capability mechanisms within a business employing scientific, analytical and commercial colleagues.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated November 2025, reports 95% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 99% agreement: “People here are given a lot of responsibility.”
The employee findings support substantial responsibility and confidence in management. BillionToOne is included for that workforce evidence and documented internal development, rather than the accuracy of its tests. Benefits and family support remain within their stated eligibility, and work on a new assay is not presented as proof that all employees receive the same learning opportunity or promotion outcome.
Tier II — Established Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Employers
(Alphabetical order)
Alkermes, Inc.
- Employing entity / assessed group: Alkermes, Inc. (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.

- Reported business origins: 1987
Alkermes identifies employee resource groups as mechanisms for professional development and networking, with participation open to employees who wish to join. The Women Inspired Network and Operation Salute have distinct purposes, while the RISE program allows colleagues to recognize contributions reflecting the organization’s values. Its benefits framework also covers health, family and financial needs.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2026, reports 92% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 94% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee findings include necessary time away, giving working-condition support a specific workforce observation. Alkermes is included for the combination of those findings and named participation mechanisms. The U.S. survey cohort is assessed separately from employees pictured in Ireland, and recognition or network membership is not converted into a measured advancement or retention outcome.
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals
- Employing entity / assessed group: Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Cambridge, MA, US
- Reported business origins: 2002
Alnylam’s published benefits guide identifies Building & Enabling Teams at Alnylam, a management curriculum concerned with coaching and developing teams. An annual career-development event offers workshops and keynote sessions, while employee networks provide mentoring and professional connections. These mechanisms give staff growth an identifiable structure alongside the company’s work on RNA-interference medicines.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated July 2025, reports 93% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The U.S. provider evidence supports welcome and management integrity. Alnylam is included on that scoped employee basis, with documentary employment material assessed separately from research prestige. The profile update predates several peers and is retained accurately; it is not relabelled as a new field period or extended to all employees in the company’s international operations.
Arcus Biosciences
- Employing entity / assessed group: Arcus Biosciences (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Hayward, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2015
Arcus’s workforce filing describes talent information used for development conversations, custom leadership training and succession planning. Its careers disclosure separately identifies health-plan premium contributions, confidential support through ComPsych and time-away provisions. Together these provide a development process and practical employment arrangements within a clinical-stage organization researching cancer and inflammatory disease.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated August 2026, reports 88% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 93% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The U.S. employee findings include necessary time away and a supportive working environment. Arcus is included for the connection between those observations and its published employment terms. The ranking does not infer benefit utilization or financial value for an individual employee, and a collaborative scientific environment is not treated as proof of low clinical-development pressure or uniform conditions across roles.
Cytokinetics Inc
- Employing entity / assessed group: Cytokinetics Inc (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: South San Francisco, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 1998
Cytokinetics identifies educational assistance, employee resource groups and a postdoctoral program within its careers material. The postdoctoral route supports independent scientific projects, while broader benefits include hybrid working, volunteer time and family-related assistance. These are separate mechanisms serving employees and researchers at different stages rather than a single undifferentiated promise of development.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated February 2026, reports 90% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 98% agreement: “Our facilities contribute to a good working environment.”
The provider findings support the working environment and staff connection. Cytokinetics is included for that U.S. employee evidence alongside a comparatively specific professional framework. A postdoctoral program is not assumed to serve every employee, and research into muscle biology establishes the nature of its work without substituting scientific reputation for the experience of people doing it.
Harmony Biosciences
- Employing entity / assessed group: Harmony Biosciences (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Plymouth Meeting, PA, US
- Reported business origins: 2017
Harmony’s careers disclosure identifies interdepartmental internships, shadowing and an executive mentorship program. Its support framework also includes a lifestyle spending account, employee assistance, flexible working hours and disaster-relief support. These are specific mechanisms through which employees can explore another function, gain senior guidance and address needs beyond their immediate professional task.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated December 2025, reports 88% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 93% agreement: “When I look at what we accomplish, I feel a sense of pride.”
The provider profile documents company meetings and a defined U.S. workforce. Harmony is included for the combination of employee evidence and a comparatively explicit development framework. A testimonial about an individual’s advancement is treated as an example, not a promotion rate. The assessment also keeps personal wellbeing support separate from the clinical value of therapies for neurological conditions.
Lupin Limited
- Employing entity / assessed group: Lupin Limited (assessed India employing group)
- Assessed workforce: India employees in provider cohort; contractors excluded; global corporate programs retain documented population and period.
- Corporate headquarters: Mumbai, India
- Business origins: 1968
Lupin’s 2026 human-capital disclosure identifies EXCEL for scientists working across functions and RISE, combining residential management learning with an action-learning project. Its Learn and Earn route combines work with pharmaceutical-chemistry study. These serve different populations and career stages, giving capability development a more concrete structure than an undifferentiated promise of training.
Great Place To Work publishes a named Indian employee cohort and 2026 national workplace recognition. Indian provider methodology requires participation thresholds and response audit, with census invitation or random sampling determined by workforce size. Employer-specific field dates, respondent count and response rate remain undisclosed.
WellBeing360 and the EHSAAS safety system provide separate employee-support and operational mechanisms. Inclusion connects independent country-specific employee evidence with documented development and workforce reporting. The report also covers international activity; its global learning totals are kept separate from the Indian survey population, while mandatory safety duties receive no automatic credit as discretionary benefits.
Neurocrine Biosciences
- Employing entity / assessed group: Neurocrine Biosciences (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: San Diego, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 1992
Neurocrine’s total-rewards disclosure identifies Coursera courses, professional certificates and degree-related learning, with employee networks open to colleagues seeking professional connections and support. Its employer profile separately describes physical, mental and emotional wellbeing programs. The offering combines a route for continued capability development with practical support for a workforce spanning discovery, development and commercialization.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated September 2026, reports 87% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 95% agreement: “When you join the company, you are made to feel welcome.”
The U.S. employee evidence supports a welcoming introduction and pride in the organization. Neurocrine is included for that defined staff population and documented wellbeing proposition. General staff endorsement does not directly measure laboratory safety or clinical-development workload, and the ranking does not infer identical learning access across every scientific, field and office-based role.
Taiho Oncology
- Employing entity / assessed group: Taiho Oncology (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Princeton, NJ, US
- Reported business origins: 2002
Taiho Oncology publishes tuition reimbursement, professional education and e-learning alongside a rewards framework. Its benefits disclosure distinguishes hybrid or fully remote roles and ties an on-site fitness centre to the Princeton office. These qualifications help make both learning and wellbeing support interpretable for an organization with research, medical and commercial functions.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2026, reports 94% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 99% agreement: “I feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.”
The employee findings support welcome and positive staff experience in the United States. Taiho is included for that country-specific evidence and clearly described support mechanisms. The assessment does not extend a local facility to every employee, or award another placement to its parent group. Oncology expertise establishes the work undertaken, rather than the quality of employment itself.
Tarsus
- Employing entity / assessed group: Tarsus (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Irvine, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2016
Tarsus publishes learning and career-development resources alongside a sabbatical program, hybrid working options and family-building assistance through Carrot. Its provider profile documents summer interns meeting leaders and staff attending a professional congress. These examples connect continuing learning with entry-stage exposure, while keeping program eligibility and occupational purpose distinct.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated March 2026, reports 96% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 98% agreement: “I'm proud to tell others I work here.”
The company is included for this specific support framework and its U.S. employee evidence. Family-building and sabbatical arrangements are described as employer offerings, with no assumed universal use or financial value. Scientific and commercial staff can face different work patterns, and the assessment does not infer the experience of every employee from participation in a selected professional event.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc
- Employing entity / assessed group: Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Boston, MA, US
- Reported business origins: 1989
Vertex’s workforce disclosure identifies career-development opportunities that include job rotations and resources for continued learning. Employee networks provide another way for people to connect across roles and functions. These mechanisms are relevant in a biotechnology employer where scientific, manufacturing and commercial capabilities need to develop together as the organization’s work changes.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated July 2026, reports 86% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 94% agreement: “I feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.”
The provider profile also documents Culture and Values Week and employee participation in service activity. Vertex is included for a defined U.S. employee-evidence base and documented development structures. Images of work at an overseas laboratory do not extend the U.S. survey conclusion to that country, and a scientific breakthrough is not treated as a substitute for staff experience.
Tier III — Specialist Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Employers
(Alphabetical order)
AbbVie
- Employing entity / assessed group: AbbVie (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: North Chicago, IL, US
- Reported business origins: 2013
AbbVie’s employer profile documents AbbVie in Motion, an annual wellness challenge, and an all-employee meeting through which colleagues receive strategy updates. Its careers framework spans scientific, manufacturing, commercial and enabling functions. These mechanisms place staff connection and wellbeing alongside the technical demands of developing and supplying medicines, rather than treating a research mission as the complete employment proposition.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated July 2026, reports 86% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 94% agreement: “I feel good about the ways we contribute to the community.”
Inclusion concerns the U.S. employee cohort and the documented support available in that setting. A wellness activity is an implemented practice, not a measured reduction in occupational risk. Staff across laboratories, production and office roles may encounter different demands, and the assessment does not assume identical working arrangements across the wider international group.
Arcutis Biotherapeutics
- Employing entity / assessed group: Arcutis Biotherapeutics (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Westlake Village, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2016
Arcutis publishes flexible time away and retirement matching, while its workforce report describes company-wide professional development and corporate participation in the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association. Its employer profile documents team experiences and shared meetings. These provide several mechanisms for professional connection within a dermatology-focused employer, with the older development report retained in its actual reporting period.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2026, reports 90% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 97% agreement: “Our facilities contribute to a good working environment.”
The provider findings support the working environment and broad U.S. staff experience. Arcutis is included for those employee-derived observations and identifiable employment arrangements. Flexible time away remains subject to the published plan and work requirements; it is not treated as an achieved reduction in hours. Team-building activity similarly provides an implementation example without establishing a measured career-development outcome for all employees.
Chiesi
- Employing entity / assessed group: Chiesi (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Cary, NC, US
- Parent business origins: 1935
Chiesi USA’s benefits disclosure identifies tuition assistance and a wellbeing allowance alongside health coverage and paid volunteer time. These are identifiable support mechanisms for a U.S. specialty-pharmaceutical workforce. The employer is a subsidiary of Chiesi Farmaceutici, so the parent’s Italian business origins are distinguished from the location and scope of the assessed American organization.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated October 2025, reports 89% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “Management is honest and ethical in its business practices.”
The provider findings support management integrity and broad workplace experience. Chiesi is included for that national cohort and a comparatively specific development and wellbeing offering. The ranking does not treat family ownership or corporate responsibility status as an automatic employment merit, and it retains the published eligibility of benefits without assigning an unsupported monetary value to the overall package.
Cipla Limited
- Employing entity / assessed group: Cipla Limited (assessed India employing group)
- Assessed workforce: India employees in provider cohort; contractors excluded; global corporate programs retain documented population and period.
- Corporate headquarters: Mumbai, India
- Business origins: 1935
Cipla University brings employee learning into a corporate development framework, while the company’s workforce disclosures describe town halls, skip-level conversations and grievance mechanisms. These address different employment needs: building capability, hearing organizational priorities and raising concerns. The assessment concerns pharmaceutical employees and working practices, separately from the accessibility or therapeutic value of Cipla’s medicines.
Great Place To Work identifies an Indian employee cohort and current 2026 national workplace recognition. Its Indian methodology specifies participation requirements and audit, including census invitation or random sampling according to employer size. Respondent count, response rate and actual field dates are not published for the employer.
Cipla is included for that independent employee evidence and an identifiable learning and communication structure. Historical training figures retain their original reporting period, with current annual reporting providing wider workforce context. Staff and worker categories remain distinct, and a formal channel for raising concerns is assessed as a process rather than proof that every issue receives the same resolution.
Dianthus Therapeutics
- Employing entity / assessed group: Dianthus Therapeutics (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: New York City, NY, US
- Reported business origins: 2019
Dianthus’s careers material identifies health coverage, health-account support and benefits intended to support professional and personal life. Its provider profile documents leaders sharing strategy, opportunities for colleagues to connect and recognition of milestones. These mechanisms give communication and staff support an observable setting within a clinical-stage biotechnology company.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated March 2026, reports 94% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The U.S. employee findings support a welcoming introduction and strong overall workplace endorsement. Dianthus is included for that defined cohort and documented employment offering. Milestones in a young company are not treated as evidence of long-term career security, and a scientific pipeline’s potential is kept separate from the experiences of employees undertaking research, development and enabling work.
Dynavax
- Employing entity / assessed group: Dynavax (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded. Legacy Dynavax survey predates February 2026 Sanofi acquisition; no Sanofi-wide or post-integration inference.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Emeryville, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 1996
Dynavax’s published benefits identify tuition reimbursement, confidential employee assistance and the Wellable wellness program. Its provider profile documents a staff retreat and community involvement. Sanofi completed its acquisition in February 2026, with Dynavax continuing as a subsidiary; the entry therefore identifies the current ownership rather than presenting it as an independent public company.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2025, reports 90% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee profile was updated before that acquisition and remains evidence for its stated U.S. cohort. Inclusion does not extend those findings to Sanofi worldwide or claim a new post-integration survey. The documented employment mechanisms provide corroboration, while uncertainty about the transfer of experience through a change of ownership is retained in the evidence assessment.
Insmed
- Employing entity / assessed group: Insmed (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Bridgewater, NJ, US
- Reported business origins: 1988
Insmed’s careers framework distinguishes research, operations, drug development, medical affairs, commercial work and enabling functions. Learning and growth are presented as part of the employment offering, while its provider profile documents a company-wide event focused on AI. This gives capability renewal an identifiable setting rather than assuming that scientists alone need continuing development.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated July 2026, reports 91% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 94% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee findings support a welcoming introduction within the U.S. workforce. Insmed is included for that independent staff evidence and a published approach recognizing different professional routes. A shared learning event does not establish identical access or completion across every function, and the medical significance of the company’s work is kept separate from the quality of day-to-day employment.
Kyowa Kirin
- Employing entity / assessed group: Kyowa Kirin (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Princeton, NJ, US
- Predecessor business origins: 1949
Kyowa Kirin’s U.S. employer profile documents an employee insights workshop, a cell-and-gene-therapy summit and a Circle of Excellence celebration. Its benefits material identifies family-care support and differentiated working arrangements. These provide concrete settings for learning, recognition and personal support within a specialty-pharmaceutical workforce.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2026, reports 88% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 95% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee findings include necessary time away and a welcoming introduction. Kyowa Kirin is included for that U.S. evidence and identifiable employment mechanisms. The historical origin of a Japanese parent business is distinguished from the assessed U.S. employer base, while participation in a summit is not treated as a universal learning entitlement or a measured improvement in career progression.
Lundbeck
- Employing entity / assessed group: Lundbeck (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Deerfield, IL, US
- Parent business origins: 1915
Lundbeck’s U.S. employer profile documents employee participation in professional conferences and awareness activity concerning brain health. Its published employment material describes benefits intended to support employees’ health, families and everyday lives. This creates a professional environment in which staff need both specialist knowledge and practical support outside the immediate scientific or commercial task.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated July 2026, reports 93% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “Our facilities contribute to a good working environment.”
The provider findings support the working environment and positive staff experience. Inclusion concerns Lundbeck’s U.S. population, with its Danish business origins distinguished from the location of the assessed employer. Participation in a conference is a development example rather than a universal training entitlement, and expertise in neurological and psychiatric medicines does not establish employee mental-health outcomes.
Merz Therapeutics
- Employing entity / assessed group: Merz Therapeutics (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Raleigh, NC, US
- Assessed therapeutic / U.S. business formed: 2020
Merz Therapeutics’ U.S. employer profile documents leadership activity, employee participation in brain-health awareness and a sustainability resource group undertaking community work. Its careers offering provides the employment context for colleagues developing, supporting and commercializing neurological therapies. Staff participation is assessed as an organizational practice rather than as proof that a therapeutic mission produces employee wellbeing.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated October 2025, reports 93% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The provider findings include necessary time away and a welcoming introduction. Merz is included for this identified U.S. cohort and visible staff connection mechanisms. The therapeutic business’s formation is distinguished from the much older parent-company history, and the assessment does not use neuroscience expertise as evidence of employees’ mental-health outcomes or assume identical benefits across countries.
Mirador Therapeutics
- Employing entity / assessed group: Mirador Therapeutics (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: San Diego, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2023
Mirador’s careers disclosure identifies healthcare contributions, a professional fitness trainer at its on-site gym and employment benefits explicitly qualified for hired full-time staff. Its provider profile documents the Parachute Packer Award, recognizing contributions that may otherwise receive less visibility. These give wellbeing and recognition defined mechanisms within a comparatively young research organization.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated March 2026, reports 97% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 99% agreement: “Our facilities contribute to a good working environment.”
The employee findings support management integrity and the working environment. Mirador is included for a specified U.S. workforce evidence base and clear employment-offering boundaries. Full-time eligibility is retained rather than extended to contractors, and research ambition is not counted as a staff benefit or as evidence that a young organization has already produced long-term career outcomes.
Phathom Pharmaceuticals
- Employing entity / assessed group: Phathom Pharmaceuticals (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Florham Park, NJ, US
- Reported business origins: 2019
Phathom’s employer profile documents sales-force training, a national meeting and recognition through its President’s Club. Its employment material also describes fitness-related reimbursement and voluntary pet coverage. These examples show a commercial-stage workforce with training and support needs that differ from a purely laboratory-based biotechnology team.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated August 2026, reports 92% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “I am able to take time off from work when I think it's necessary.”
The employee findings support distinctive benefits and a welcoming introduction. Phathom is included for that U.S. staff evidence and specific employment mechanisms. A sales award trip is a recognition example for a defined population, not a universal benefit or measure of fair advancement. The assessment also keeps employee wellbeing arrangements separate from the clinical benefits of gastrointestinal medicines.
Roivant Sciences
- Employing entity / assessed group: Roivant Sciences (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: New York, NY, US
- Reported business origins: 2014
Roivant’s employer profile documents rotational analysts and employee networks, while its careers disclosure identifies health coverage, retirement matching and working-location support. These mechanisms are relevant to a business that develops medicines through a subsidiary model, where employees may work across investment in scientific programs, operational development and company-building responsibilities.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated October 2026, reports 96% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 98% agreement: “I am given the resources and equipment to do my job.”
The provider findings support access to working resources and a positive U.S. workplace experience. Roivant is included for that identified cohort and documented development activity. No subsidiary receives a duplicate place in the selection. The assessment does not assume the same survey covers every separately operated Vant, or treat clinical trial and approval achievements as measures of employer quality.
Servier Pharmaceuticals
- Employing entity / assessed group: Servier Pharmaceuticals (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: Boston, MA, US
- Assessed therapeutic / U.S. business formed: 2018
Servier Pharmaceuticals’ employer profile documents colleagues learning and presenting at an oncology congress and interaction between a patient and a packaging team. These provide distinct examples of professional knowledge exchange and connection to the purpose of work. The assessed population is the U.S. pharmaceutical employer, within a wider group governed through a foundation.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated May 2026, reports 90% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 96% agreement: “Our facilities contribute to a good working environment.”
The employee findings support the working environment and management integrity. Servier is included for this identified country cohort and documented staff activity. The foundation-owned business model is context, not an automatic employment merit. A professional congress or patient interaction does not establish that every scientific, manufacturing or commercial employee receives equivalent development or experiences the same workload.
Veracyte Inc
- Employing entity / assessed group: Veracyte Inc (assessed U.S. employing group)
- Assessed workforce: U.S. directly employed workforce in provider cohort; contractors and unassessed foreign affiliates excluded.
- Assessed U.S. headquarters / base: San Diego, CA, US
- Reported business origins: 2008
Veracyte combines biological assay development and genomic diagnostics with laboratory, research and bioinformatics work. Its workforce filing describes employee-led communities supporting professional development, connection and engagement. This establishes an employment mechanism alongside the technical roles, while biological testing and assay research place the employer within the biotechnology scope rather than treating it as a general software vendor.
Great Place To Work’s U.S. profile, updated November 2025, reports 90% overall workplace endorsement. A published employee item records 93% agreement: “Management is honest and ethical in its business practices.”
The provider findings support management integrity and a positive U.S. workplace experience. Veracyte is included for that defined employee population and an employment framework recognizing several technical disciplines. The assessment keeps the value of diagnostic information for clinicians separate from staff experience, and does not infer that every laboratory, commercial or office role has the same working arrangement or development pathway.
Remarks
Published employee evidence remains attributed to its original independent provider. Participation and sampling attestations were assessed for each national population. Employer-specific respondent counts, response rates and field dates stay undisclosed where not public; workforce population figures are never relabelled as survey samples.
The selection draws on U.S. and Indian cohorts within an international candidate universe. Provider percentages are not pooled into a worldwide staff score. Benefits, research programs and professional activities retain their country, facility, role and reporting-period boundaries; named programs do not prove universal access or measured outcomes.
The five weighted factors are ordinal editorial judgments, not scientific measurements conducted by The Economy. Ties consider development specificity, implementation coverage and cohort accountability. Laboratory, manufacturing and office exposures are not combined into an unsupported occupational-safety league table, and statutory duties receive no discretionary-benefit premium.
The review date is 23 October 2026. A legacy employee survey predating an acquisition remains evidence only for its original population and period. Later corporate changes or stronger workforce evidence may alter placement. Licensing, sponsorship and recognition purchases do not influence eligibility, scores, ties or tiers.
Recognition
Inclusion in the Top 30 Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Employers 2027 ranking is an editorial determination of The Economy Rankings and does not require licensing, advertising, sponsorship, or other commercial participation.
Ranked organizations may factually refer to their inclusion in the ranking in their own communications. When describing the result, entities should accurately reflect the tier structure and methodology used in the published ranking.
How the ranking should be interpreted
- Tier I represents the Top 5 entities, and the published order within Tier I reflects the ranking order.
- Tier II represents entities ranked within the Top 15, following Tier I. Entities within Tier II are displayed alphabetically; their displayed order should therefore not be interpreted as an individual numerical ranking.
- Tier III represents entities ranked within the Top 30, following Tiers I and II. Entities within Tier III are also displayed alphabetically, and their displayed order should not be interpreted as an individual numerical ranking.
- An entity's tier, rather than its alphabetical position within Tier II or Tier III, should therefore be used when describing its standing.
Referencing the ranking
Depending on the entity's published tier, appropriate factual descriptions may include:
- Tier I: “Ranked Tier I” or “Ranked among the Top 5”
- Tier II: “Ranked Tier II” or “Ranked among the Top 15”
- Tier III: “Ranked Tier III” or “Ranked among the Top 30”
Entities should not describe an alphabetical position within Tier II or Tier III as a specific numerical rank.
